Yet more games you can play

29 May

I haven’t done this for a while, so here’s two free independent games I think you should play.

Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer This is the sort of thing Saw: The Video Game could have been with a bit more imagination. It’s a psychological horror game, like a low-res Alone in the Dark or Silent Hill but in reverse. Rather than a protagonist escaping a nightmarish scenario, you get to hunt and torture people for an online audience. It’s a bit like Dungeon Keeper but with people.

Digital: A Love Story is more interactive fiction than a proper ‘game’, but I still found it compelling. Interactive fiction (or text adventure, if you’re old school) usually plays through a fairly plain monochrome text box, but Digital creates a unique sense of place by simulating a pc circa 1988. It’s a weird blend of retro-futurism that sells the story by generating the environment in which it takes place, all with deliberately shit graphics. I won’t give away the plot, but anyone who enjoys Cyberpunk or is old enough to remember the glory days of Infocom should give it a go.

Dungeoneer was really good but far far far too short, the story was kinda slapped on without much care. I liked Daily’s androgyny though (surprise).

I might give Digital a play tomorrow.

Yeah I agree, it’s a bit unfinished (like practically everything on RPG Maker) but there’s some good ideas.
I think you will like Digital a lot.

Digital was seriously good. In that it is presently 4:19am because “I’ll just do a little more before I go to bed oh whoops finished the game”.

        THE ENDING THOUGH. D:
